Šiauliai Gintra prepating for the start in 2022 Spark Energy Women’s A League Championship on Sunday and officially presenting another newcomer Koku Oluwadamilola. The promising 19-year-old from Nigeria is playing at the peak of the attack and will strengthen the team’s offensive potential.
The footballer stands out with her impressive physical data, speed characteristics and unique ability – the athlete’s 170 cm tall striker plays equally well on both legs.
Last season, Koku played in Nigeria, along with another team newcomer, V. Ikechukwu. Wearing the FC Rivers Angels team uniform at the Nigeria Championship and Cup, she scored 5 goals and made 4 assists. With this team, the newcomer of “Gintra” became the national champion.
The striker has already joined the training process of the Lithuanian champions and is looking forward to making her debut in the first official match, which is already on the nose – on Sunday. Šiauliai team will receive guests from Kaunas, FC “Hegelmann”.
“This is my first career stop in Europe, so it is natural that I am really excited. However, as soon as I got here, we were surrounded by great people, a friendly team, so we immediately felt like at home. Although it will take more time to fully integrate into the team, understand the game and the ideas of the coaches, I hope to get a chance to make my debut on this Sunday and give all my strength in the fight for the first victory”, – said K. Oluwadamilola.
Commenting on the arrival of the newcomers to the team, the director of the Gintra club Mantas Radavičius noted that the addition was the most necessary in the attack chain, and the injuries suffered by some football players dictated the situation for quick decisions.
“This year has been challenging in many ways, and we are still short of players, especially after a couple of football players dropped out due to injuries. It’s very frustrating, but Serena Dolan probably won’t be able to compete this season due to a cross-knee injury, so we had to react. Also, the pre-season cycle showed that at the peak of the attack we lacked sharpness, basically a lack of players capable of scoring goals, creating dangerous situations. We hope that Vivian and Koku, who have joined the team, will bring the necessary energy to the attack and we will have an equal chain in all positions. Both players are talented, individually strong, so it remains to successfully integrate, get to know the team and achieve for victories”, – said M. Radavičius.
Women’s A League will take place tomorrow in Šiauliai. 3:00 p.m. Gintra football players will fight against FC Hegelmann. We invite all football fans to come and support their city team.
