Nigeria national team striker joined Lithuanian champions ranks

Šiauliai “Gintra” team received a solid addition in the attack chain. The champions club has managed to attract Vivian Ikechukwu, the striker of one of the strongest nations on the African continent, Nigeria.

For the 24-year-old footballer, the Lithuanian champion team will be the first stop of her career in Europe. It is true that many well-known European clubs wanted to see her in their ranks, but the African chose to continue her career at Gintra.

The striker played for several years in the youth national teams. With the U-17 national team, she competed in the FIFA World Championship. Vivian received an invitation to the Nigerian national team (also known as the Super Falcons) last year and has already made his debut wearing the country’s most prestigious T-shirt and 2 goals for the South African national team.

V. Ikechukwu represented FC Rivers Angels since 2018.

Representing FC Rivers Angels at the Nigeria Championship last season, Ikechukwu played the first violin as the team leader. The newcomer of Gintra, who competed in the position of the national striker, scored 11 goals and 8 assists. The football-led FC Rivers Angels won the Nigeria Championship and had the opportunity to compete for the first time in the African Football Confederation Women’s Champions League, which was held in Egypt.

“We had a great season, winning the national championship and winning the honor of representing Nigeria in the African League of Nations Champions League for the first time. We got into a difficult group and, unfortunately, we didn’t get out of it, but just participating in this competition was a memorable and invaluable experience”, – the newcomer, who has already joined the training process, shared his impressions.

The 170 cm tall player stands out for his athleticism, explosive power, impressive speed and technical skills.

“I am very happy to start a new career stage in Lithuania and I look forward to getting to know your city, culture, people, debuting in the championship competition. The teammates, coaches and staff welcomed me very warmly from the first moments, so I want to thank everyone for that, it will definitely help them integrate faster. Thanks also to my former team, who wishes me the best of luck. After the first training, I can conclude that the coaching staff is very professional, has a lot of high-level, talented players, so it remains to enjoy being here and to achieve victories”, – said V. Ikechukwu with a smile on her face.

Vivian is set to make her debut this weekend, in the first 2022 Spark Energy A-League match against FC Hegelmann. Please note that the meeting will take place on Sunday at 15:00.
